Yet, it is unlikely that even such beautiful items as the latter might lure shoppers into our shops and boutiques. What they will most probably find irresistible are the wonders this country offers in terms of native arts and crafts, and the modern representation of the ancient Mayan traditions. Beautiful weavings, tapestries, wonderfully embroidered blouses (or güipiles), modern clothing inspired by the centuries-old traditional native costumes, magnificent workmanship in ceramic, wood, jade, silver, primitive and modern paintings, leather goods. Taking back a small sample of the creativity and craftsmanship of our Guatemalan people, who work with their hands to produce works of art, is an important part of the pleasure that visiting this country offers to tourists.
